Printing a PCL File in C# – A Guide

Feedback

Solution 1:

Apologies for my delayed response, however, I possess some code that can fulfill the required task. The code wasn’t authored by me initially; I obtained it from a different programmer’s assistance website, although I cannot recall the precise one. The code functions exceptionally well, and I’m sharing the project that generates a dll. To replicate it, choose Create:/Project/Class Library and select Visual C# under project types.

}

To implement the code, simply reference the resulting dll in your project and invoke its functions based on your requirements. Earlier today, I used the code and below is an example of how it can be utilized.

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;
using System.IO;
namespace PclFontTest
{
    class Program
    {
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            string szPrinterName = @"\printserverLaserJet 2420";
            StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(@"C:FontsUS20HP.FNT");
            string line = (char)27 + "*c32545D";
            line += sr.ReadToEnd();
            line += (char)27 + "*c5F";
            PrintRaw.RawFilePrint.SendStringToPrinter(szPrinterName, line);
        }
    }
}

The software extracts a PCL Font from a document and applies a unique identifier of 32545 to it before utilizing the SendStringToPrinter DLL function.

Solution 2:

The instructions provided in this article pertain to Visual Basic, but they can be easily adapted for use with C#. If you encounter any difficulties, please let me know and I will be happy to offer assistance.

In case the printer is connected to the network, there is an amusing way to communicate with it directly. It remains unclear whether sending the PCL bytes to the printer alone will yield the same result.

Solution 3:

The subsequent approaches are implemented for each DLL import:

    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "OpenPrinterA", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool OpenPrinter([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPStr)] string szPrinter, out IntPtr hPrinter, IntPtr pd);
    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "ClosePrinter", SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool ClosePrinter(IntPtr hPrinter);
    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "StartDocPrinterA", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool StartDocPrinter(IntPtr hPrinter, Int32 level, [In, MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPStruct)] RawPrinter di);
    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "EndDocPrinter", SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool EndDocPrinter(IntPtr hPrinter);
    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "StartPagePrinter", SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool StartPagePrinter(IntPtr hPrinter);
    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "EndPagePrinter", SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool EndPagePrinter(IntPtr hPrinter);
    [DllImport("winspool.Drv", EntryPoint = "WritePrinter", SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]
    public static extern bool WritePrinter(IntPtr hPrinter, IntPtr pBytes, Int32 dwCount, out Int32 dwWritten);
